What actually happens if you sleep with your bra on?
Is it okay or not okay to sleep with your bra on? Isn’t this a big deal nowadays? I know a lot of women who want to rush back home every evening only to take that damn thing off. The question is: Is it okay to wear a bra while sleeping? Read on to know more.
Some women find sleeping in a bra quite uncomfortable while others claim that they feel super comfortable sleeping with a bra on. A lot of people believe that wearing a bra while sleeping could lead to breast cancer and while others consider that this practice prevents the breast from sagging. How true is that? Read on to know more.
Tight Or Loose?
Wearing a bra while sleeping is totally fine only if you’re not wearing the tight ones. Bras, which are too tight, tend to hurt the breast tissue and don’t let your skin breathe. So, it’s important to either remove the bra before you go to bed or find a comfortable alternative.
Bras are usually snug fit. If you wear them for a long time, they may cause discoloration, dark spots and in the worst case even skin rashes Bras, mainly with underwire ones could affect the blood circulation. The wire also compresses the muscles around the breast area and affects the nervous system. So if you’re planning to wear a bra to bed, make sure you pick a non-padded, non-wired one or best would be a low impact sports bra or a slip-on bra so that you have a comfy sleep minus the pokes of wires and hooks.
Restricts Breast Growth?
A common misconception about wearing a bra while sleeping is that if you wear a bra at night it restricts the development of your breasts. Well, let me tell you this is so not true, your breasts stop developing post-adolescence. There is no way a bra could hinder growth or development especially when it has been designed to support and shape the breasts.
Bras for Every Season & Every Reason
Now taking Indian seasons into consideration, hot & humid weather may lead to the growth of fungal infection. During summers and monsoons, due to excessive sweating and humidity, you may notice boob sweat around the underbust area. which may further lead to skin irritation or odor. Well, most of the people who think it would be wise to avoid wearing a bra while sleeping and allowing the breasts to breathe. My experience and opinion would differ, just how sweaty thighs cause chafing in summers, your breasts might also get irritated skin around the underbust. If you wear cycling shorts under a skirt, it eliminates the friction of the skin. The same way a cotton bra would act as a layer between the skin and avoid rashes, also cotton is a fabric best known for being breathable and absorbent so you feel less sweaty around your breasts.
Size Matters
Breasts of all shapes and sizes are beautiful but when it comes to sleeping in a bra at night, some get it easier than the others. Women with smaller breasts find it comfier to sleep without a bra on whereas, women with a bigger bust size find it extremely uncomfortable to sleep without a bra. The weight of the breast can disturb your sleep making you twist and turn in bed all night finding that perfect sleeping position. Wearing a bra for bigger bust women will make sure their breasts stay put.
So, finally whether to sleep in a bra or not is more of a personal choice. As far as breast sagging is concerned, that is a natural process sweetheart. Now or later, we all will face it. Although there are other ways to support sagging breasts like anti-sagging bras, exercises and massage therapies that help in getting them back into shape.
