How to Style Tights
I think wearing your athletic wear all day is more than acceptable these days. It’s a cool trend that is comfortable and stylish. People of all ages are wearing their workout wear all day now, whether it’s leggings with a longer coat and a scarf, or wearing a cropped T-shirt with a denim jacket and some high-heeled boots.
If you can work out in something, you can sure as hell run errands, hang out with your friends, and dance your face off in it. Who cares if leggings as pants were a cardinal fashion sin a few years ago. That was then and this is now. Besides, you can’t even remember a few days ago. So, really, who minds? Bleh. As long as you keep these five simple styling tips in mind, you can wear leggings whenever and wherever you want, and you’ll always look totally banging. Your workout leggings are so comfy you probably wish you could get away with wearing them in public — outside of the gym. We’re way ahead of you. For a dose of outfit inspiration, we’ve styled our favourite pairs with fancy shirtdresses, blouses, and more to make ‘em appropriate for brunch, date night, and beyond. If fun pants were your main source of enthusiasm to hit the gym, you might need to find something else, because, thanks to the outfits below, their elliptical-bound days are numbered.
For the people who shop for their athletic wear thinking, how can I wear this from the studio to the street? Here are a few tips on how to style tights:
1.Just because tights are sporty doesn’t mean you have to style them in a sporty way. Maybe you can add a little spice to it.
Tights can be boho printed and plain too especially in soft, pastel colours and coordinate it with a fringed vest and a cute pair of ankle boots or sneakers.
2.Coordinate the colour of your jacket with your tights to create a cute outfit.
Matching your jacket to your tights makes the two pieces look like they were always meant to go together, thus inspiring the tights from gym gear to an all-around-awesome wardrobe staple.
3.Accessorize appropriately.
It only takes one piece to take your athleisure look from the gym to the street. A pair of mirrored sunglasses, a structured leather jacket, a shirt tied around the waist. The key is that the piece has a sleek, sporty feel itself. Don’t add a vintage fringed jacket to your sporty tights or cat-eye sunnies to your zip-up bomber jacket.
4.When wearing tights as pants, stick to flats, sneakers or chunky heels.
More often than not, stilettos just make tights look trashy. Besides, why would you wear the world’s most comfortable pants with the world’s least comfortable shoes? Now dress up these tights with a cool t-shirt and a pair of casual sneakers.
5.Layer tights under tricky fashion pieces like mesh tops or see-through dresses:
You can still get in on the whole “naked dress” trend without going bare underneath.
Pair up your tights with a cute mini skirt and a mesh top or you can even add a jacket. And here you go from a hot yoga session to a hot date.
