Think Again, Are You Washing Your Bra Properly?

Throwing your bras in the washing machine seems very easy but, did you know? Doing this could be damaging your bra. Your lingerie is the most delicate clothing in your wardrobe.  Storing and washing them correctly can make them last longer.

When was the last time you hand-washed your bra? Yes, hand-washed! Especially the padded and underwired bras need to be hand-washed and not machine-washed. The spinning, twisting, twirling of a washing machine damages the shape of the underwires and spoils the padding of the bra too. In order to retain the shape of your padded & push-up bras you need to hand-wash your bras with mild detergent or baby shampoo.

Soak your bra in cold water for about 20 mins and rinse with clean water. You can use your palms to gently squeeze out the excess that usually gets absorbed by the pads. But make sure you’re easy on the bra and don’t spoil the wiring shape.

Never ever hang your bras by the side band or hooks. The heavy wet pads may cause your bra to lose its elasticity, thereby causing slipping shoulder straps.

 

 

Instead lay it flat or hang it by the centre gore so that the shape of the bra does not get tampered.

If you however still want to machine-wash your expensive bras, just make sure you go through this checklist.

1. Use a mild detergent

2. Wash with similar colour clothes

3. Always remember to hook on the bras before putting it in the machine. Otherwise the hooks may get deformed or even rip off other clothes.

4. Use a mesh bag. (Vegetable bags also work well for this purpose)

Quick Tip:

Use vinegar or baking soda to bring back life to your old whites & nudes. This trick also helps in removing stains from your light-coloured bras.
