Yoga Poses You Need To Do To Lose Weight
Yoga has been found to improve the quality of life, reduce stress, anxiety and also results in maintaining heart rate and blood pressure. It may be intended as a way to calm the mind but it also is a great way to get in shape and drop some weight.
Active, intense styles of yoga help you burn the most calories. This may help prevent weight gain, while restorative yoga isn’t an especially physical type of yoga, it still helps in weight loss. Studies also found that restorative yoga is effective in helping overweight women to lose weight, especially abdominal fat.
So here are a few postures that can help you lose weight. (Holding each posture as long as you can, that maybe 15-20 seconds for beginners and increasing your ability can give you better results)
Plank is also known as kambhakasana, which is an arm balancing yoga pose that tones the abdominal muscles while strengthening the arms and spine. Holding a plank may be one of the best ways to strengthen your core. It may look a lot easier but trust me it won’t take long to feel it work in your abs. It is one of the best calorie-burning yoga postures. A plank hold engages multiple muscles at once, thereby benefiting the core strength of your body.
2. Warrior ll (Virabhadrasana B)
Warrior ll is a standing yoga pose that enhances strength, stability and concentration. It’s named after the Hindu mythological warrior, Virabhadra. Like a powerful warrior, you too can tone the muscles in your thighs and shoulders with warrior ll. To get the most out of the posture, try to bend your front knee so your thigh is parallel to the floor. The longer you can hold this position, the tighter your quads will get.
3. Warrior lll (Virabhadrasana C)
It is an intermediate balancing pose in Yoga. This dynamic standing posture creates stability throughout your entire body by integrating all the muscles throughout your core, arms and legs. For a more toned butt, Warrior lll is the way to go. In addition to toning your back end, it’s also a great way to strengthen your back, legs and arms. To get even more out of it, contract your abs while you hold the position. Not only will it help you balance, but it’ll flatten your belly too.
4. Triangle (Trikonasana)
Triangle pose, is a standing yoga pose that tones the legs, reduces stress, and increases stability. This posture may not make your muscles shake like some other postures, but do it often and your abs will thank you later! The twisting motion of this posture helps to improve digestion and reduces fat deposits in the belly.
5. Downward Dog (Adho Mukha svanasana)
Downward dog posture is an inversion asana in modern yoga as exercise, often practised as a part of a flowing sequence of poses, especially Surya Namaskar. If you are someone who’s wanting a full-body workout, then downward dog it. With a little extra attention to certain muscles, this asana goes from a resting pose to radical way to strengthen your arms, back and thighs.
6. Shoulder stand (Sarvangasana)
Shoulder stand is the powerhouse of postures. It’s full of benefits and tends to be more accessible than other inversions. From improving digestion to therapy for the thyroid and even increasing strength, this shoulder stand does it all. This inversion works to balance thyroid levels which boosts metabolism, improves the respiratory system, strengthens the upper body, legs and abs and help you sleep better. Add this to your daily practice and you’ll feel like a whole new level of energy.
7. Bridge (Setu Bandha Sarvangasana)
Bridge pose is a beginning backbend that helps to open the chest and stretch the thighs. It is great for the thyroid, glutes, and for weight loss. Pressing down with your feet engages your thighs and back end to help tone those muscles too.
Now that you know the best yoga poses for losing weight, make sure you nicely geared up for the workout. These yoga poses involve a lot of stretches and hence it becomes utmost important for you to wear a well-fitted supported bra to keep you comfortable. For yoga, you can opt for a low to medium impact bra.
