Mumbai’s iconic kaali-peeli taxis to go off road
What makes Mumbai so different from the other cities? It’s tourist attractions and also its iconic & robusty taxi’s fondly called the Kaali-Peeli! i.e The Premiere Padmini Black and Yellow taxi.
Back in 1964, the Premiere Padmini quickly gained recognition for its reliability and efficiency, making it the go-to choice for Mumbai’s taxi fleet. It was synonymous with Mumbai.
Cut to 2023, these iconic vehicles will be retiring from the lively roads of Mumbai effective today, due to Maharashtra’s 20-year taxi regulation.
“Ye Mumbai ki shaan hai aur hamari jaan hai” said Abdul Karsekar, who owns the last registered Kaali Peeli taxi of Mumbai.
