Got a Broken Underwire Bra? Here’s How to Repair It!
If you love bras (even if you don’t like wearing them), you’ll understand the pain of discarding a piece, whether it’s your favourite or not. While the everyday bras last much longer, there are some like lace, underwired, powernet, etc., that you might have to let go of sooner. It’s understandable when the fabric becomes the reason, but that might not be the case with an underwired bra, especially if it’s not that old. The biggest issue? When it’s underwire starts to stick out. Ouch! Now that’s painful. But here we are with some DIY solutions to save that bra.
How to Fix Your Underwire Bra Real Quick?
If you want to save your underwire bra and also your skin from its poking, you will need a few things and a little magic of your resourcefulness. So grab a duct tape or a moleskin, a needle of 6-8 inches, an upholstery thread of the matching colour, and a nail polish or fabric glue. Once you’ve got all these things, here are a few steps that you need to follow:
Step 1: Pull Out the Protruding Wire
The phrase ‘two negatives make a positive’ falls right into place when you are repairing your underwire bra. Pull the protruding wire out just as much as 2-3 inches from the seam so that it’s clearly visible.
Step 2: Wrap the End of the Wire
Once the wire is visible poking away from the seam, it’s time to put the duct tape to use. Cut a portion of the tape big enough to properly wrap around the wire. You can also use a moleskin instead of the duct tape.
Step 3: Poke the Wire Back In
Following up, poke the wire back into its original place. You wouldn’t want it to peek out to hurt your skin again.
Step 4: Stitch the Edges
Now is the time to put your hand sewing skills to some good use. Use the needle & thread to stitch the gap in the fabric and close the ends once the task is done.Step 5: Reinforce the Stitching
To ensure that all your work doesn’t come undone, use a nail polish (preferably transparent) or fabric glue to dab on the stitching. This will seal the seam from coming apart. You can repeat this step after you handwash it.
